MdBible Privacy Policy
Effective date: 21 October 2026
MdBible is a Bible reader and study app for Android, iOS and desktop, made by Adam Foerster as part of MdSuite. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it.
The short version: MdBible does not collect, transmit, sell or share any of your data. Everything you create stays in files on your own device, in a folder you choose.
What the app stores, and where
MdBible works on plain Markdown files in a folder on your device — your “vault”. In it the app reads and writes:
- the Bible texts you choose to install;
- your notes, marginalia and highlights;
- your reading plans and your progress through them;
- your settings, in a file named
mdbible-settings.md.
These files belong to you. You can open, edit, copy, move or delete them with any other app, and uninstalling MdBible does not delete a folder you picked yourself. (If you never picked one, the Android app keeps its vault in its own app folder, which Android removes when the app is uninstalled.)
Besides the vault, the app keeps a few things in its private storage on your device:
- a cache (index) of the vault, so it opens and searches quickly. It holds nothing the vault does not already say, and is rebuilt from the vault whenever needed;
- a small queue of edits waiting to be written to the vault;
- the location of your vault, and, on Android, the reading reminders it has scheduled, so they survive a restart.
None of this leaves your device through MdBible.
No network, no accounts, no tracking
- MdBible makes no network connections. On Android it does not even request permission to access the internet.
- There is no account, sign-in or server.
- There are no analytics, advertising, crash-reporting or tracking tools of any kind, and no third-party SDKs that collect data.
- We do not collect personal information, device identifiers, location, contacts or usage data.
If a note of yours contains a web link and you tap it, the link opens in your browser; what happens there is governed by that website and your browser, not by MdBible.
Permissions
On Android, MdBible asks for:
- Notifications (
POST_NOTIFICATIONS) — only if you turn on the daily reading reminder, to show it. - Run at startup (
RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED) — to schedule your reminders again after the device restarts.
When you choose a vault folder, the system folder picker gives MdBible access to that folder only.
On iOS, MdBible asks for permission to show notifications, for the same reminders. On desktop, reminders are shown by the app while it is running.
Sync and backups
MdBible does not sync anything itself. If you keep your vault in a folder that another service syncs or backs up — Obsidian Sync, iCloud Drive, Google Drive, Syncthing, git or similar — your files are handled by that service under its own privacy policy, by your choice.
On Android, the operating system’s own backup (Android Auto Backup), when you have it turned on, may include the app’s private storage described above in your Google account backup. That is managed by Android and Google, not by MdBible, and you can turn it off in your device settings.
Children
MdBible does not collect information from anyone, including children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be published at this same address with a new effective date. Because MdBible collects no data, a change cannot apply to data already collected.
